One such project is "Pachapuriqkuna, Wanderers of Time," a stop-motion feature from Peru that explores themes of environmental conservation, Indigenous advocacy, and a deep respect for nature. The film follows Mariano, who returns to his small town after his father's death, only to awaken a dark force that threatens his people. Through a journey of healing and memory, the film aims to restore balance and empower the local animation industry. Another notable entry is "And on That Day..." from India, an animated feature that combines 2D and paper-drawn animation. The story centers around 10-year-old Parth, who transforms into a superhero named Synapse Son when he dons his costume. However, an unexpected incident during a family gathering threatens to change their lives. The filmmakers, twins Kushal and Kushagra Kishore, emphasize that the essence of their movie lies not in superheroes but in the idea that life is a series of random events. "Uncle Jo's Cabin," a France-Belgium-Luxembourg co-production, offers a poignant exploration of exile and the possibility of living together. Based on the book by Brigitte Smadja, the film follows 9-year-old Lili, who is sent to live with her uncle Jo in a Parisian suburb during the Six-Day War. Through the creation of a garden and the process of rediscovering life, the film conveys a powerful message about resilience and the importance of community. The production team, including Folivari, Take Five, and Doghouse Films, aims to create a visually stunning and emotionally resonant experience for both children and parents.
"Rise of Ying Ge," a Chinese-French co-production, takes us on a journey through Paris Chinatown and the Chinese folk art of Ying Ge dance. Directed by Denis Do and produced by Sébastien Onomo, the film follows Lucie, a young girl who accompanies her parents to China for her grandfather's funeral. As Lucie discovers the true essence of Ying Ge, she uncovers her grandfather's legacy. With a strong focus on storytelling and a blend of 2D and 3D animation, the project is seeking partners to secure financing and begin production by 2028.
Lastly, "Factory Beyond the Hill" presents a Brazilian-Spanish co-production that delves into the complexities of a small village's encounter with enigmatic outsiders. Directed by Ricardo Kump and Lucas Abrahão, the film explores themes of conformity, uncertainty, and the power of investigation. With a strong visual development and a compelling narrative, the project is seeking co-production and international partners to bring this thought-provoking story to a global audience.
